Marc Guiu recalled by Chelsea sparking Sunderland transfer saga

The injury to Chelsea’s Liam Delap early on in the West London Derby against Fulham has ignited a storm for the World Champions, including the recalling of Marc Guiu, on loan from Sunderland, along with the cancellation of Nicolas Jackson’s reported loan to German giants Bayern Munich.

Chelsea are reported to have ‘reached a verbal agreement’ with Sunderland regarding the immediate return of Guiu, according to Fabrizio Romano. The wording of the deal perhaps suggests that Sunderland has received a fee for this deal, but that remains speculation as it stands.

The young Spanish striker had made three appearances for the Mackens so far in his short-lived loan spell, including scoring against Huddersfield in the Carabao Cup second round.

Sunderland are no stranger to a sudden striker shortage in their recent history, with Ellis Simms being recalled by Everton back in January 2022.

The Wearsiders now scramble to secure a replacement for Guiu, with Ajax’s Brian Brobbey being touted as an option for the Black Cats.
