Sheffield Wednesday Show Interest in Free Agent Forward Duncan Watmore

Sheffield Wednesday are reportedly eyeing a move for experienced forward Duncan Watmore, following his release from Millwall at the end of the 2024/25 season.
The 31-year-old attacker, who has also played for Middlesbrough and Sunderland, is currently a free agent. Watmore has plenty of Championship pedigree, scoring 21 goals in 97 appearances for Middlesbrough between 2020 and 2023.
Sheffield Wednesday’s Transfer Struggles
According to reporter Alan Nixon via his Patreon page, Watmore has emerged as a potential target for Wednesday as they continue to navigate a turbulent period both on and off the pitch.
The Owls endured a frustrating summer transfer window, managing just two incoming signings—Ethan Horvath on loan from Cardiff City and Harry Amass on loan from Manchester United.
Now, Wednesday are believed to be exploring the possibility of getting Watmore involved in training while seeking EFL permission to secure his signing outside the window.
Potential Hurdles in Watmore Deal
While Wednesday’s interest is clear, any move for Watmore could be complicated. The forward is would need a permanent contract at Hillsborough, which may prove difficult given the club’s ongoing financial and ownership challenges.
If Wednesday can secure a deal, Watmore’s experience and versatility in attack could provide a much-needed boost to Henrik Pedersen's squad as they battle through their Championship campaign.
